"I really began to think that my husband didn't love me anymore, and couldn't figure out why were weren't having sex. We have been married for a long time, and I had tried everything. We went to Fort Lauderdale Behavior Therapy, and the support that we have received is helping us become intimate again. I also discovered that he does still love me."
Sex avoidance, sometimes called “Sex Anorexia”, is what takes place when an individual is avoiding intimacy or sexual contact with their partner. Some ways sexual avoidance may unveil itself, is when the Avoidant goes out of their way to cause arguments or create uncomfortable scenarios that give justification for not engaging in any type of intimacy. In some cases, sexual avoidant individuals still engage in sexual activities, but remain unable to with their significant other.
Sexual avoidance can stem from separation and attachment issues, emotional issues from childhood (abuse, neglect, molestation, etc.,) and psychological trauma brought on by other life experiences. Substance abuse, depression, anxiety and other social/personality issues may be used as a way of avoiding intimacy. Some individuals may exercise avoidant behaviors through having casual sex, abusive partners, excessive dating, abusing their partner, or working long hours in order to avoid intimate situations at home.
